    Holy Trinity

    1. Chizela

Chizela, today--Mufumbwe District, is situated in the geographical centre of the Catholic Diocese of Solwezi in Zambia. It is about 250 km from Solwezi, the capital of the Northwestern Province. Chizela was an outstation of St Kalemba Parish. Since the seventies the Franciscans were attending and taking form into the current parochial territory.

    2. Holy Trinity Parish.

Holy Trinity Parish started years back around 1971. Fr. Jude opened the first baptism book and registered the first baptism in Chizela on 22nd April 1973 (Maria Mukuma, originally from Kalengwa, born in 1937). Fr. Jacob, Parish Priest from St. Kalemba, used to come to Chizela primary school and was visiting three outstations in this area (Matushi, Kalengwa and Kabipupu) as well. When going for pastoral visit these outstations were also included in the pastoral program. He asked Fr. Alex and Fr. Swavick from Kasempa to start visiting them. That is how this Parish started, although it was officially recognized as a Parish in 1985.

    2.1 Outstations.

Currently, Holy Trinity Parish has three pastoral zones, namely:

    3. Holy Trinity Church building (Mufumbwe).

Chizela used a temporary shelter for Mass in the seventies. The Church building was constructed in the late eighties (1980s) within Mufumbwe township, and the Church renovation was done in the year 2000.

    • Extension of the Holy Trinity Church building.

Beside the civil servants and officers, many people from the surrounding villages have come in search of good and better life in Mufumbwe District. Hence the increase of population of the District compelled to consider extending the interior dimension of the Church building. The Parish Priest in 2008 suggested to put up some more structures. He, together with others, planned to build the Parish hall, HBC office, Hammer mill and Nursery school. The parishioners dug the foundation for the three structures. The work of expansion for the Church building started in July 2010. The Church building was expanded by the removal of the interior partitions and a new sacristy added to the back. New benches for the expended and renovated church building were made by local carpenters in 2011 and 2018.
